A new report released by SecurityScorecard and DarkOwl reveals that the uptick in telehealth visits creates a healthcare landscape rife with patient privacy breaches. The shift from in-person appointments was unprecedented. This accomplishment was in a matter of weeks than over a decade of telehealth lobbying; hence, creating room for cybersecurity attacks. Notably, after the Health and Human Services issued a limited waiver of HIPAA sanctions and penalties for the COVID-19 pandemic duration.

There are many possible motivations for this: resale of personal data (including health data), elimination of competitive advantage, increased bargaining power, and even military sabotage. The six categories of risk apply correctly to telemedicine: data integrity, confidentiality, availability, authentication, traceability of transactions, and attribution of acts.
